I am Driving a Truck in a Supply Convoy to Ukraine

As you are reading this, I am driving a truckload of supplies to Ukraine. I want you to know why.

I feel frustrated witnessing important world, national, and local events. I don’t have a way to support, resist, change, or participate in a meaningful way. I am just a witness to what is happening. I am not a public figure with a voice that can be part of the national debate. I am not Bill Gates with $ Billions to spend. I am not in charge of CNN or Fox News and able to broadcast my point of view to millions.

During the Vietnam War, I joined 500,000 protestors and marched on Washington. I was elected the Democratic Nominee for the US Congress for the 5th District in Massachusetts as part of my effort to end the War. I did not win the final election, but I was involved and doing something.

For me, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine violated the peace in Europe brought by the end of World War II. It is not America’s war, but Russia is thumbing its nose at the understanding America helped build that one nation would not militarily invade another in Europe. The US and Europe have been ambivalent about how to respond to the Russian invasion and the brutality of the Russian occupation.

I don’t know how the war will end. I hope peace will come soon, but I don’t want to remain a silent bystander. I decided to join a convoy of Americans bringing supplies to Ukraine. Will my contribution make a big difference? No, but I want to make a personal statement by getting involved and doing something.

I and 30 other Americans are driving from Warsaw, Poland, to Kyiv, Ukraine. We loaded non-military supplies onto trucks and ambulances and are driving them to Kyiv. This convoy of donated vehicles and supplies will be our contribution to Ukraine’s resistance to the Russian invasion.

To learn more about our supply convoy, check out its website HERE.

Please consider a contribution to help cover the costs of the supplies. Click on the DONATE button on the website. All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE. If you can donate $50, $100, or $200, please do so. In the Comments, say you are supporting my participation in the convoy.

For security reasons, communications will be very restricted during the convoy. I will not be able to share my experiences until after it ends. I expect to meet with legislative and other leaders in Kyiv and learn about their experiences, hopes, and expectations.

Some of you will question why I am doing this. In a small way, I want to help. I want to make a statement. I want to make a statement about who I am.
