Find your Zone of Leadership and you will be in the right job for you, and you will be right person for the job.

Your Zone of Leadership is where your Strengths and Passions intersect. You will be most successful in your career and find the greatest job satisfaction, if you find your Zone of Leadership and pursue jobs and a career in your Zone.

My best-selling leadership book, Create the Future, is your practical guidebook for making difficult decisions. I talk about the importance of separating the decisions you make for the company from the decisions you make for yourself. As the leader, you are responsible for the company – the organization you lead. You are also responsible for yourself. Both are important, and they are different. You are not the company.

The Zone of Leadership chapter in Create the Future gives you tools and publicly available online resources to find your Strengths and your Passions. Additional exercises help you find the overlap of your Strengths and Passions. You describe and characterize a job profile that is in your Zone of Leadership at this point in your career.

Whether you are early or late in your career, I know you will find the Zone of Leadership exercises in my book of great value as you think about where you are today and the right next steps.

Consider the stories you have heard many times. The best salesperson is promoted to sales manager and fails at that job. The company’s COO who is great at managing internal operations, is promoted to CEO and fails because he is terrible at customer and investor relations. These individuals were very successful in their Zone of Leadership. They failed when they were “promoted” to a job outside their Zone of Leadership.

Get Create the Future and put the Zone of Leadership exercises to work for you. Be more successful in your career by getting into a Zone of Leadership job today and pursuing a career path in your Zone of Leadership.

You can order Create the Future from its website HERE or from Amazon. Kindle and audio versions of the book are also on Amazon.

The Sea – a Parallel Universe

You know that I am a sailor. In many ways, I feel more comfortable on my boat and on the water. On land, everything is hard and rigid. When I am on the water, I am constantly confronted by cars, people, noise, and connection to everything.

When sailing, I am gliding on the surface of the ocean, bay, or lake. Most life on this planet exists in a parallel universe below the surface of the water. We seldom see that life. Yes, I am excited by the prospect of exploring the universe, going back to the moon, and eventually getting to Mars. I also want to spend more time exploring the undersea world so close to us – yet so distant.

One of my favorites is the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. I can wonder at the life in the Bay without going into the water. I like going in the water and would go in, if I could. But, I captured this image of a swimming squid without getting wet.
